Beauty and the Blues

What motivates you?

I thought a few words, probably less than five, would answer today’s prompt, but here I am explaining Beauty and the Blues. Motivators show up and disappear a mile a minute. Death, life, peace, war, famine, feast, deceit, honesty, kindness, and brutality have been known to motivate me. They all fall into two categories: comfort and discomfort, or ease and disease. That’s an easy filter that both artificial intelligence and the princes of the world will have major problems using to solve the mystery of slave trade, colonialism, patriotism, homicide, and the human longing for beauty and peace. I think I have a simple motivation continuum for a complicated family.

Thinking is not believing

The things we report are not facts because we report. When we state the opinions of others or affirm our own beliefs we do not establish faith. The gods we seek, worship and create demonstrate the range of human experience and enlightenment. Government and the lack of it have equally brought us to the brink of extinction quite apart from the many gods we revere. As we have seen, there are no yet to be discovered books, visions, dreams or wisdom sayings that will change the direction of earth’s kingdoms and nations. Sounds negative? So does work, play, law, justice, man, woman, feast, famine, birth and death. So let’s keep our thinking and belief strictly in their silos.

Kings will always tax their subjects and leave their children untouched, and fools will always build bigger barns for their own pleasure.

And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs or poll-tax, from their sons or from strangers?” (Matthew 17:25b, NASB)

But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’ So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. (Luke 12:20-21, NASB)

Heaven’s speaker

There is no ambiguity about who the one from above is, despite all kinds of scrambling to rewrite the record of sacred revelation.  A yes or a no from him is simply yes or no.  No mystery covers his meaning, but the heartless and rebellious are quick to show the one from above as just like or subservient to even the best ones from earth. It is amusing and deadly.

“He who comes from above is above all, he who is of the earth is from the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.” (John 3:31, NASB).

Christ is not one of the prophets

“See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.” (Hebrews 12:25, NASB)

There are far too many Christians who underestimate the authority and the finality of Jesus’s words.  They think nothing of turning to Moses or one of the ancient prophets, or even a contemporary prophet, or even their pastor, or even th parents.  If heaven’s speaker takes Moses to the next level, should he not be more considerate of human hardness of heart, and should he not provide real answers to human rebellion beside death sentences, or should he throw a book at people and hem them in with irreversible condemnation?

Inside scoop

The speaker from heaven has inside information that no one else could possibly have. He can speak of things that he knows which no one else could know. There were many things that he said that had the authorities and the learned people of his day scratching their heads.

1) God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2) in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.”

Hebrews 1:1-2, NASB

The full moon shows us the full bath of light from the sun, once a month, and the event marks the death of Christ as the sacrifice for the sins of humanity, and shows that his mission is indelible. It is written in the sky. The woman who gave birth to Christ has the moon under her feet, and she is bathed in starlight, head to toe. Heaven’s speaker is not moving over for any of these authorities, nor will he be capitulating to Caesar. He is Caesar’s Lord. He is lord of all those who are wielding military, economic and colonial power. When will we learn?

The age of MAGA and mediocrity

I do not know what kind of coincidence shines the spotlight on the number 42 in August 2023.   Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has “42” as the answer to the question ‘life and everything”.  I seriously doubt that Republicans, Democrats, or any other configuration of political and religious entities, will answer life’s most sobering question or questions. Here are the facts. 42% of Americans believe what their religious leaders say. That compares to 71% believing what the lie factory, ex-president 45, produces. The beleaguered 45th president hangs on to 42% as the Republican nominee.  I suspect the universe has conspired to expose the deadly cult into which many across the globe have fallen. Tycoons – moguls and wealthy princes – are posters for mediocrity and short-winded typhoons. Give them enough rope and they quickly quickly hang themselves with criminal ventures.

Being right or real is divorced from religion

The current sinkhole of politics and religion will not give up its victims. The victims have turned off the taps before they finished soaping up their hands. They have made themselves patriots and reluctant martyrs for their cause. The scenario reminds me of the Pharisees in New Testament times who thought they had a Moses follower in Yeshua from Nazareth. The Sadducees did not even think of that potential. The two parties were already aware that Moses, temple, law and levitical priesthood were all heading out the door. Mediocrity and open malice never saved a nation, and yesterday’s greatness is incriminating, across the board.

Assurance of satisfaction

What do you enjoy most about writing?

Granting that writing fulfills itself where the audience reads, I have to say that writing brings me an ocean of contentment . I get the satisfaction of getting my thoughts into a form that informs readers reliably. My readers get to build their confidence in the common and certified sources of information, without arm-twisting and without rabbit holes and deadly concoctions threatening the integrity of the relationship.

Me and mine

On a purely personal level, and secondary to the writing-reading combination, I can also say that discoveries always await me, and discoveries inspire me to keep learning. Discoveries also come with pointers on how I can creatively express my findings.

Virulently Antisemitic

How far are evangelical believers and the MAGA crowd from the people who say “Jews will not replace us”?  Now is a good time for the tourists who go to Israel for a high to explain their love of the Jewish people and support for their just aspirations.  The UK and the United States never really bought the vision of the self-determination of First Nations. We can see that they have not understood the problems associated with the Partition of Palestine.  Compare what the exiles returning from Persian rule did with what the Jewish immigrants following WWII occupied themselves.  To this day there is no temple, no levitical administration, and no Solomonic throne in the State of Israel.  American treatment of First Nations and African-Americans is a betrayal of Jewish and Christian tradition.  Theology does not get more virulent than to seek to establish a modern movement as the true expression of God’s servant, preserving the ancient material and maintaining the noblest traditions.

Foolish and destructive jealousy

It is the jealousy of Gentiles, wanting to be Israel, that exposes the most virulent attitudes towards the Jewish people.    It is obvious from the ruins of Israel’s spiritual and material treasures that a massive failure has to be entered in the ledger. Israeli lurching to the right deserves a stiff protest, but the popular blessings and curses people associate with Gentile relationships with the State of Israel keeps people from speaking the truth.  Even so, no-one can replace Israel and Judah.  You may have heard of the theory that the UK and Britain are modern Israel, or you may have encountered any number of Christian groups advertising themselves as the true Israel, keeping God’s commandments and upholding the distinctive covenants.   There is no Israel 2.0, no church imitation of Israel or Judah, and the vineyard that was Israel and Jerusalem is not the same kind of entity as the Vine and the branches.

The greatest human entity

All things written in prediction of the One to whom all the prophets gave their most controversial and consequential witness have come to pass.  That One is perfectly at rest.   His day has come and gone.  He has done the Father’s will and there is nothing left for him to do but sit tight at God’s right hand until the time comes for “making Christ’s  enemies a footstool for his feet.” (Psalms 110:1, NASB). This eventual parting of sheep from goats is not some angry reaction to outrageous behaviours and thinking.  Let’s face facts.  The entity making the most noise about supporting Israel will turn out to be the next backstabber.  It cannot say “Yeshua is Lord” without invoking the passion narrative as a punitive act of God against the Jewish people.  It’s not done because it’s impossible.

Idols that corrupt the land

There was a time when the level of violence all across the planet reached a point that resulted in decisive action. There are no statistics to tell us what the violence was or its daily frequency. The action, even though it was a death sentence on all flesh, was corrective. The sentence of death by flood affected only those who refused the refuge of the ark. A similar judgment came in the Israelite escape from Egypt. A sentence of death on all of Egypt’s firstborn with the notable exception of those who accepted the refuge of a blood-stained doorpost. This was a judgment we can put in the redemptive column. The thought that God might appreciate the works of human hands has always been on the minds of, at least, the practitioners of rituals and procedures, because that is the easiest way to grab a bit of the coveted spotlight on genuine glory. I am interested in how much glory can be found in a land full of idols and in a people who God has convicted of sleeping with all the gods of the nations of the known world.

Did God change his mind about idols?

If people ever thought that a tent and its functional furnishings were the hub of divine benefits they can be forgiven, but let us not be in denial about the value of the works of our hands. Genuine worship is not something the worshipper does to benefit himself. The worshippers’s professional activities and all his property are altogether a very small hill of beans. We understand that only what God prescribes passes for acceptable service (Deuteronomy 15:21). A prayer that has praise, thanks, testimony and idols is corrupt, and both Israelite and Philistine societies have found themselves trying to normalize corruption.

Cursed be the cheat who has a male in his flock, and vows it, and yet sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished. For I am a great King, says the LORD of hosts, and my name will be feared among the nations.

Malachi 1:14

The advice of Philistine priests and psychics

We always think we can create the right circumstance to bring on God’s smile. If only our society would turn on the axis of what God has said about the things we see as essential. Making an image of justice, blind and blindfolded, is artistic and eyecatching but even the bronze serpent that was instrumental in saving so many lives is a corrupting idol. Using idols to appease the God who abhors idols shows an unprecedented level of idolatry. Even the Philistines will have to answer for giving life to wood and stone.

So you must make images of your tumors and images of your mice that ravage the land, and give glory to the God of Israel. Perhaps he will lighten his hand from off you and your gods and your land.

1 Samuel. 6:5

Even as late as Isaiah’s days God was still trying to wake people up to what it means to rely on him. Pulling the rug out from under ourselves is a decision we would hardly come to but it seems to be the only way to break our addiction to our own achievements and processes. Yahweh turns off the taps. People then and now believe their support systems or secure lifestyles – their bread and water – are connected ultimately with human actors. The terms support/stay and supply/staff (mishen and mishenah) sum up the totality of the human network. Yahweh reveals them to Isaiah as follows.

  1. the mighty man (big shot, magnate)
  2. the soldier
  3. the judge (law enforcement)
  4. the prophet
  5. the diviner
  6. and the elder (Isaiah. 3:2)
  7. the captain of fifty
  8. the man of rank
  9. the counselor
  10. the skillful magician
  11. the expert in charms. (Isaiah. 3:3)

Here is God’s replacement for this fortune 500 pantheon, from the big shot with his influential empire to the naturalist healer or shaman and his charms. It is a full and complete revelation of human incapacity to maintain independence from the works of God’s hands or even declare independence from what he has said. Kids dishonouring their elders round out the picture of godlessness.

And I will make boys their princes, and infants shall rule over them. (Isaiah. 3:4) And the people will oppress one another, every one his fellow and every one his neighbor; the youth will be insolent to the elder, and the despised to the honorable. (Isaiah. 3:5)

Handmade things include humans

Idols and images of any kind are across the tracks from God. Where we stand indivcates our choice.

For I know that after my death you will surely act corruptly and turn aside from the way that I have commanded you. And in the days to come evil will befall you, because you will do what is evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger through the work of your hands.”

Deuteronomy. 31:29

The prohibition of making objects – images of things in heaven or earth – is set aside for the tent and the temple.

All the wood and all the stone

All the symbols, all the enabled powers that be, are resisting the seating of the boys and the infants. When will the adults and elders man-up and recognize the empriness of both patriarchal and Mosaic tradition. Celebrating the greatness of law and covenant is itself idolatry. Nations claiming to possess the best set of laws is idolatry. We are certain that God did not dictate the constitutions of the nations as he did for Israel. A great set of laws does not guarantee life or even a sustainable lifestyle. Wood and stone surround and define the idolatry compound as well as the sacred tent. They also shine light on the stone or rock that provides life and security. The wood comes into full view as the instrument of execution and the destruction of the work of the adversary. Christ on the cross, naked and bleeding, exposes the emptiness of the temple – wood, stone, and precious metals.

A l o h a grunge

Along with misleading the public with books supposedly addressing faith and eternal life, Americans are engaged in schemes of opposition and protest that look like conscienctious responses to public policy but in fact and design are incontrovertible diabolical priorities, a lot of hot air and discriminatory grunge.

Covid19 denial and so-called pushback

One would think that by now Americans would wake up to the fact that covid-19 is no conspiracy the measures imposed by health oauthorities are not restrictions but protections. If you think these mostly Caucasian freedom fighters care about people and the oppression of poor people ask yourself why they have not spoken out against the corruption and hate that both the GOP and the Catholic-Protestant Alliance have duped people into trusting as today’s purity and love. Faith and life have tenuous links to the politics of any country, and railing against abortion and vaccination are not going to create any reasonable balance in the governance of any country. What will come out of mixing faith and politics is white supremacy and utter whoredom. Aren’t Americans already sounding like whoring queen Babylon? One source of a lot of hot air I just ran into is the following. Read it and save yourself from this crooked and perverse generation.

They can’t stop opposing, primping and hating

To the degree that she glorified herself and lived sensuously, to the same degree give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’ For this reason in one day her plagues will come, pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her is strong.
