Bible and church were never in decline
Religious movements claiming to restore church, prophecy, gospel or truth are bogus. The church is always whole; she is never flickering like a candle in the wind, never an ember in the ashes. “You are the light of the world” comes to rescue us from the reformers and their rabbit holes. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. The number of people sucked in by slick talkers and people who have departed the faith is not a few. It is incredible that anyone ever believed that the church was ever in decline or that the Bible needs a mother of all transactions.
“See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.”
Colossians 2:8
The long line of reformers stretches from the disciples’ misconception that Christ may have been aiming to restore “the kingdom to Israel” (Acts 1:6) to James and the Pharisees trying to impose Mosaic instruction on the church (Acts 11:1-5, 15:1-29). I am not surprised that there are still so-called believers trying to give the reins of the church to Moses and trying to glory in the flesh of the believers by means of circumcision-like practices.
The church has had neither drought nor famine
Any notion of returning to past greatness is serpentine balderdash. The church and all entities can collate their past data in a flash by virtue of technological advances. Lawyers can find all the cases where sentences have been imposed on racist leaders and Bible teachers can locate with a few clicks all the sayings of wisdom that show salvation is an irrevocable gift. We have nothing to gain by listening to people talking about restoring grace and glory in the church. There is no forward movement if the Commandments of Moses became the law of every nation. Thankfully, Christ did not come except to die. He did not come to make any believer rich, healthy, or famous, to make a nation a global superpower and definitely not to make America great again.
Every movement, including the famous Protestant Reformation and the growing roster of revivals, makes up the portfolio of the self-serving enemies of the cross.
Fixing what’s not broken
The pitiful souls who end up hearing “Get out of here, I never knew you” (Matthew 7:23) are people who had no root in themselves in the first place. They are not people who believed and lost their faith. They are not people who received eternal life then lost it. They are people who bought the lie that a modern prophet or apostle has insights that are essential in addition to the New Testament record; insights that could only be found in their extra biblical literature and based on their visions and dreams. The conclusion is that they are not just misguided people; they are evil doers.
“and He will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you are from; depart from Me, all you evildoers.’”
Luke 13:27, NASB
Israel wannabes
It is still shocking that Jewish people want to live like Gentiles and still insist that Gentiles must become practicing Jews. Even the sure-footed Peter slipped up in this regard.
“But when I (Paul) saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas (Peter) in the presence of all, “If you, being a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?” (Galatians 2:14, NASB)
Let us not miss the significance of this revelation. The point Paul is making is that Jewish people are dead wrong in their attempts to turn Gentiles into Jewish people. Jewishness and lack of it is irrelevant. Ethnicity and nationality have no relevance whatsoever to the kingdom of God, and have no impact on the revelation of Jesus Christ. Doing Jewish things is neither here nor there.
“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love.” (Galatians 5:6, NASB)
The discombobulation of Mosaic law is also clear from the life lived in Christ: faith working itself out in love, not festivals, offerings and litigation. Christian reformers and Israel copycats do not impress me with their extensive organization and secondhand interpretation of the Scriptures. They are Pied Pipers with the catastrophic destination being Sinai, a place where pledges to obey ended with all but two individuals dying in the desert, in unbelief.
The church that embraces a political agenda is a dud
We know now that all of the movements claiming to have a Christian root are now partners with the Catholic church and the Vatican, mired in a wicked campaign to unite secular and sacred in an attempt to create a government in the name of God apart from the grace and justice of God’s only Son. They care about the unborn and are hands tied to protect children in their classrooms. The church will continue to make progress without following evangelicals, Catholics and all the Modern Israel wannabes. When they admit that Yeshua is not the centre of their joy the church will experience the one accord she needs and rejoice with exceeding joy.
God’s anger is not an emotional wilderness
Many people rant and rave about sin and crime and few if any have ready solutions for the predicaments of their neighbours. To the Christian, if you are not a Christian, poor you . Religious governments can chop off limbs to prevent violations of person and property. There is no doubt in my mind that the delusion of a great American Revolution 2.0 is emotional lunacy, lacking love and justice of the type assumed to be central to most spiritual communities. While God’s hot face has brought about the speedy demise of select individuals it is obvious that zapping erring individuals cannot be God’s ultimate treatment.
God PUBLICLY DISPLAYED Christ as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was for the DEMONSTRATION of His righteousness, because in God’s forbearance He passed over the sins people had previously committed;
(Romans 3:25, from the NASB)
So instead of a clean of the perps, as secular and religious authorities customarily do, God’s anger turns to unusual justice. Still both old and new believers get on a high horse against the evils of our times and we find them holding out nothing to compare to what God has done in Christ to assist the needy. I suppose these righteous vigilantes know nothing about God’s saving grace and his ongoing intercession. Pity.
Keep your anger down, get on the shine-a-light train
Cursing the darkness probably happens a lot more often than anyone might want to admit, but I do not expect the angels avenging Israel’s dysfunction or American malfunctions to call themselves out any time soon. They all are sure that making offenders disappear is the righteous thing to do. Whither Netanyahu, Vladimir, and all the thuggish weaklings of our times?
This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.
(James 1:19-20, NASB)

Please stop blocking the road
There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of believers who have a firm belief that they have the critical role in bringing people to the Way. There should be no dithering about the human role in salvation’s messaging. There is no doubt that God uses people to care for one another after they are saved. There are some who dare to insert themselves into the saving pipeline inappropriately. These are usually people who are not actually kingdom-bound. They make up their own pathways for salvation and harass and bully people who are coming to God by faith, even intimating that faith is dead until they can see how much of a disciple like them you can be. These are road blockers.
What is calling on the Lord?
The image below shows the text of Romans 10:13 in three panels, left, the KIng James Version, right, the English Stadard Version 2011, and below those two the UBS4 (the 4th revised edition of the Greek New Testament from the United Bible Society).
I have reproduced this sentence (a single verse) to show that preaching and teaching without connecting with the best sources is a deadly trap. Now I have never heard or read a cogent interpretation of the Roman 10:13, but the various translations ought to have made you want to look “under the hood”.

Let me throw two more translations (NET 2.1 and Holman Christian Standard Bible) into the mix for good measure to illustrate that the seventeenth century translation of the Bible into English, the King James Version (KJV), misses the mark by a wide margin. I must hasten to add that the KJV is in many other cases careful to deliver the integrity of the Greek and Hebrew texts.
For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Rom 10:13 (NET 2.1)
For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Rom 10:13 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
How might people hear?
The KJV stands alone in treating the action of CALLING ON as a future tense. “Everyone who might call” becomes “Whosoever shall call”. I am certain that the individual assigned to translate Romans (a) did not consult his colleagues to translate epikalesetai (b) he thought he saw a future tense from the presence of the letter “s” and (c) if he prayed for the correct translation, God did not reply. The presence of the particle an gives away the verb that follows it is not an indicative, purting the action into the realm of probability or possibility. “Shall call” should be “may call”, or “might call”.

Furthermore the verse that follows has three interrogative aorist subjunctives, call, believe, and hear. The three questions are How might they call, How might they believe, and How might they hear, APART FROM PREACHING. The aorist tenses indicate the type of action, not the time (e.g. past, present, future). Calling on the Lord is not a lengthy and misdirective process of indoctrination like the Pharisees had.
Kingdom-bound or just acting out some easy things?
“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in. Matt 23:13
Some people have taken the position that it is insufficient for a person to simply call on the Lord and be saved. They insist, like the Pharisees, that Moses must get into the pipeline as God responds to the sinner. They insist, like the Pharisees, that patriarchal practices must get into the pipeline as God responds to the proselyte. What happens if a person calls? He will be saved (future, indicative passive tense).
