The vegan myth of Daniel

If Daniel was a man who did not eat the delicacies of Babylon, or did not drink wine,  or was a vegetarian, or used oil to appear joyful (have a shiny face) he certainly did not need to describe three weeks of his life.  Would he?

I did not eat any tasty food, nor did meat or wine enter my mouth, nor did I use any ointment at all until the entire three weeks were completed. (Daniel 10:3)

One fable relates how Daniel chose to defy the king of Babylon, by eating vegetables. To be clear, MEAT = flesh.  There is no such thing as a biblical case for or against vegetarianism.   It is pure juvenile and modern nonsense to create ancient Israelite vegans.  From the top to the bottom of society, Jewish people engaged with their national heritage would be obliged to eat beef, mutton, or goat flesh.  Remember, fables are explanations people invent when they have no intention of embracing the truth or even the facts of history. So no one but Adam can claim to benefit from being a vegetatian.

Priests eat flesh in their ordination and practice

The priests of the Levitical order were obliged to eat flesh. They had no choice.

“Thus they shall eat those things by which atonement was made at their ordination and consecration; but a layman shall not eat them, because they are holy. (Exodus 29:33)

Imagine how often a priest and his family has flesh to eat in the process of their mediation and tell us how many in the Levite family could be vegetarians.

“And you shall offer your burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood, on the altar of the Lord your God; and the blood of your sacrifices shall be poured out on the altar of the Lord your God, and you shall eat the flesh.

(Deuteronomy 12:27)

Then we come to the world where the priesthood and its regulations are changed, not modified, but uprooted and replaced by a new order and law. We find that food, the things one ingests, is not a measure used by God.

But food will not commend us to God; we are neither the worse if we do not eat, nor the better if we do eat. 1 Corinthians 8:8

The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him.

(Romans 14:3)

Destructive perfection

Of course there are people who, despite evidence to the contrary, would like the world to see them as the creme de la creme. Babylonians did it and Iraqis do it. The builders of the tower of Babel did it and all the modern aspiriing superpowers do it. Persians did it, and Iranians do it. Rome did it, and keeps doing in the Pax Britannica and the Pax America. You see how perfection pervades the secular world, but then ask yourself if there was ever a world dominated by a non-secular regime, and the answer is yes, and we can identify the fact from the terms of ancient Israel’s covenant (the first covenant).

Judging people by what they eat has been explicitly rebuked by the introduction of the disciples to God’s acceptance of Gentiles. Gentiles do not need Jewish priroties to be accepted by Christ. The Heavenly Father draws people to Chriust apart from circumcision, which is the primary seal Hebrew identity, apart fropm the Law of Moses, which is the arrangement for Hebrew nationhood, and God draws people to Christ and gives them the Holy Spirit apart from the rituals and regulations regarding purity. This understanding about cleansing and purity has We have no right to judge people on the basis of these kinds of behaviours.

The followers of Christ and the followers of Moses are not one and the same. That is just bewitching silliness.  The church is not Israel, neither as kingdom or nation .  The church is not Israel, neither as race or as a people.

One bright light incontrovertibly illuminates Daniel

When you read the Hebrew Bible you will find the Book of Daniel in the ninth place with the thirteen writings. Christ’s followers are obliged to treat the book of Daniel as a prophetic work.  Daniel’s book has six instances of first person narrative (Daniel 8:15, 8:27, 9:2, 10:2, 10:7, 12:5) and the book is the only one that has a detailed account of the future international scene with figures fully explained.  For example:

“The ram which you saw with the two horns represents the kings of Media and Persia. (Daniel 8:20)

31. “You, O king, were looking and behold, there was a single great statue; that statue, which was large and of extraordinary splendor, was standing in front of you, and its appearance was awesome. 32. “The head of that statue was made of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of bronze, (Daniel 2:31-32)

38. and wherever the sons of men dwell, or the beasts of the field, or the birds of the sky, He has given them into your hand and has caused you to rule over them all. You are the head of gold. 39. “After you there will arise another kingdom inferior to you, then another third kingdom of bronze, which will rule over all the earth. (Daniel 2:38-39)

Daniel the prophet

What could be strange or destructive about a prophet who eats flesh, drinks wine and eats Babylonian delicacies?  Nothing, except that prophets are not a thing in the Covenant of Paschal Blood.  Not Daniel and not even Moses holds any ranking when the child grows up. Believers are utterly rebellious when they put themselves at the mercy of prophets, miracle workers and exorcists. At some point faith has to release the child into adulthood.  That is why the Sermon on the Mount had no reference to Law and Proohets until the Lord Christ detected the rotten thoughts of the audience.

“The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it. Luke 16:16

Where did you go, Masenko?

Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?

My teenage years were turbulent and adventurous.  I had no small gift of learning to play musical instruments.

This is masenko

I had one of these with the box covered with snake skin. I figured out how to accompany my singing.  I thought my masenko was magical.  In one of the family’s moves my one-stringed music maker disappeared from my life.

New vistas plotted and knotted

It would be a cause célèbre if God put any stock in the predictions of the prophets. From Jonah not seeing eye to eye with his gracious Sender to Ezekiel making the eternal reconciliation complex a function of the Levitical economy, we see a God who needs to take matters into his own hands. Is that not the theme of humanity in Eden? Well, let us see if people have learned the basics about God unfolding the future with strategic hints to those who plot to be seen as insiders without knowing how profoundly they have knotted up the ties that need to be unbound.

Staying focused

It was Apostle J. Simmonds who said, “Stay focused” in the face of (a) unforgettable expired things (b) people who distract and (c) an unknown future.

“Do not call to mind the former things, Or ponder things of the past. “Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:18-19)

This pair of couplet sayings establishes a clean break with antiquity.  It is the forgotten configuration; namely, the divine intention and intervention.  It is most notable because the question is stated in a negative framework,  expecting the positive response: OF COURSE WE WILL NOTICE!

The couplet consists of the two imperatives: (a) do not call to mind, (b) do not ponder.

Then follows another couplet: (a) I’m doing a new thing (b) It springs forth.

Then comes the necessary question designed to make clear the line separating the mover of history from the history.

“…Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:19, NASB)

I shudder to think that almost all the people we journeyed with through 2024 and trusted suddenly lose their minds as one year gives way to another.  Shudder to see 2025 plastered all over the city and the country as if it were glory.  Shuddering to hear the predictions of good things as if 2024 was bereft of benefits and lasting memories.  I shudder to think that, somehow, the God who says things will get progressively worse until glory dawns has changed his mind.  I am sure that glory has none of the following.

  • Teary eyes
  • Death
  • Mourning
  • Crying
  • Pain

All the reasons for teary eyes, all the causes of death, all the mourning, crying and pain will be with us in 2025.  By the way, whatever became of “One day at a time”?  At year’s end, everybody seems to be able to predict months and months in advance.  Incredible!

Undoing the effects of the hypnotic mantras that have occupied the majority of believers will require an act of God. “Closer walk with God” ignores the fact that God dwells in our mortal bodies.  It is unlikely to happen to large swathes of the believing community.  Like love’s genesis, discombobulating the false prophecies of prosperity and happiness that fill the air every year’s end, begins at home, one individual at a time.

You shall not tempt God with knots

Are we truly faster than the goodness that pursues daily?  Since we are not, then what are we forecasting on top of divine goodness and mercy? Goodness and mercy do not fade or increase, and we are only contradicting the predictions of increasing distress for our times because we are not focused on the essential work of the Spirit.  Is eternal life getting more eternal? Does eternal life change by day, week, month or year?  The other life we have in common is not getting, even if we contradict the Lion of Judah, whose lifting of the seals to unfold history does (Revelation 5:6-7, 6:1-17) not cover the scenarios of which New Year plotting is made.  Knotting up the ties that we need to unbind have earmarked the people of God from antiquity, but the Church is neither the world nor Israel; she is built for steady growth, never defeated, even when the mountains are crumbling into the sea, as they are right now.

Why can the face of public safety be John Kennedy (R)?

January 01, 2025, 1445 ET

he incorrigibly MAGA Reublican Senator John Kennedy, speaking over the Black Mayor of New Orleans, at a press conference , giving preliminary information to the pubkic and running interference against the press, just happens to be the face of the terrorist problem in right wing and MAGA world. The deadly and venomous lie came out for the first time in 2025. People who are responsible for keeping people safe should not be believed when they say that a particular incident of violence will never aagain happen. The architects of American Misery should leave information disemination to trusted professionals. That is the devil saying “I have stopped lying”.

Oh, those dream-encrusted children

At this time of the year it is customary for people to think of the future as more than tomorrow, more than contentment of a day, more than our imaginary powers can conjure.  I suppose God would have to make a world that is very very good at least.  The first world, which we are accustomed to acknowledge as perfect and outstanding in creative genius seems to have fallen apart rabbit catastrophically.  So how’s 2024 a.m., let us dream again this time more like his children than like our parents children.

It is quite certain that 2025 is going to be nice, nice being “without certain things”.  I wonder if that means free from adverse conditions.

  • No sickness
  • No pain
  • No loss
  • No toil
  • No disappointment
  • No death no dying
  • No fear no crying

Peering into the future some people see light and others see darkness, and God is still the sovereign who opens and closes doors, and is touched by both human birth and death.

What then will 2025 be?  What is its niceness?  Surely we will recognize that the greatest things have been around all along and have never departed, and never will.  So let’s pursue the certainty of what is in 2025 and not what’s not.  Unless 2025 is Glory’s Dawn we can at best hope to love more as long as faith is a God-pleaser.  As 2024 fades, let’s be  dream-encrusted children.
