Follies of the sacred

Praying can expose the gaps in growth as a child of God. Things we say in life’s most important conversation open the window to a courtyard of fear and misinformation. We want to know the name of the god who responds to a request for cleaning if God’s policy is to ignore a sinner’s (=believer’s) prayers. This is where people can end up if their understanding of prayer gets shaped by ancient sacred buildings.

People can get so caught up in symbols, signs, food, drink, rituals and regulations that they lose sight of reality.  The case can hardly be better made than with trying to make prayer conform to the tabernacle service.

The main problem is one of presence.  When exactly is the believer in God’s presence? Is there an outer court, a laver, a place for preliminaries to prayer?
A disturbing practice is followed by people who think they cannot speak to God or hear from him without first  becoming sinless. This is not becoming sinless by not sinning. It is BECOMING SINLESS BY PARDON which is where all Christians begin.

  • Who ever came up with that one is a raving genius of nonsense.
  • God has to hear or respond to sinners
  • The process for getting saved is “sinner calls on the Lord’s name”
  • The sinner (any believer) surely cannot ask the same God who “does not hear sinners” for a cleansing from all sin  so that one’s prayer can be heard.

I know who says that prayer, but who hears that prayer?

Israeli Passover shenanigans revealed

Truth without justice is a specialty that has been around since we organized ourselves into clans and tribes with competing interests.   Even when the wise and powerful try to put in place the practice of remembering the means of escape from Egypt it eventually included recognition of the divine name and real estate. Two things were not included that would become essential for accepting the full counsel of Yahweh’s passover, the monarchy and the temple. When animal blood runs in Jerusalem as a national happening, requiring the approval of the modern state of Israel and the approval of a foreign power it is time to get the goods from the horse’s mouth.

We want to find ourselves a part of Moses’ grand contribution to fellowship with God, but order, sacrifice, and equity have become victims of rotten salesmanship.

Preparing to take a deeper dive

Accordingly, the Sanhedrin sent a request to President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu to be permitted to offer a sacrifice for the sake of the world and for the purpose of ending the pandemic.
“Mr. President, you and Mr. Netanyhu can immediately install the right values and laws for the entire human race and all of creation in this world by letting Israel obey the laws of the Torah of Israel which requires us to sacrifice the Passover lamb,” the request reads.

Since when does the Jewish people need permission from a foreign power to do anything. Setting aside the big lie of New Testament times that says “Jews were never in bondage” (sounds like “Britann rules the waves, Britons never shall be slaves”). In an attempt to wake what God has put to sleep some segments of Jewish society are planning to perform temple rituals on Passover, as if God was going to be impressed with ritual.

For I delight in loyalty rather than sacrifice, And in the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

Hosea 6:6

A life without limits

Instead of praying we have been decreeing and declaring, commanding and not demanding. It is obvious the decreeing, declaring and commanding is unreliable – no, I’m being kind – a genuine theatrical flop. I have heard ’em putting an end to Satan’s power!!!

Do you know how many times I have heard a believer – on being asked to pray – pronounce life a veritable paradise, free of challenge, deny the adversity that elicits growth? I dare say too many times. It it is a mind that rejects growth, that preaches victory and success to people who are MORE THAN CONQUERORS that invents this kind of routine. They are time-wasters in my opinion, but God has a more precise definition for that type.

Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

John 15:20

We’ve forgotten that Christ actually fed the hungry and released those oppressed and he’s not finished

Purpose of life

A simple response to what our labour goals are should be “prayer”. I am not talking about what happens in church building at meetings. Since prayer is fellowship with God we urge everyone to learn how. Paul urged his disciples to keep watching for opportunities to pray.

To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, Ephesians 6:18-19

There is gospel beside grace through faith. Much of what most fills the air waves are no mystery.

Speaking in the Maelstrom

Despite being terrified and knowing that his presence on Mt. Horeb was underwritten by God, his face-to-face God, and that his career needed this encounter. How do we know? He tells us in Hebrews 12:21, Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, I tremble with fear. Moses hears the memorable sounds, feels the momentous tremors, and, groping in the dark, he opens his mouth.

And the Lord said to Moses, Behold, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever. When Moses told the words of the people to the Lord, Exodus 19:9

What that was exactly is clear from the following. Exodus 19:18

Now Mount Sinai was

  • wrapped in smoke because
  • the Lord had descended on it in fire.
  • The smoke of it went up like the smoke of a kiln, and
  • the whole mountain trembled greatly. .

One would think that the right thing to do was to keep quiet especially as the noise increased.

And as the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him in thunder (vs 19)

God answers with thunder! One just can’t win against God. If one is interested in going up for a chat then one needs to be aware that with the volume rising amid tremors, fire, smoke and darkness we can be intimidated or dare to speak and get thunderous answers.

The prayer life of Moses certainly has some sobering elements. If the Psalm, Prayer of Moses, is any indication, Moses may have been afraid but up on Mt. Horeb was where God was and if God is there things will turn out just right. It was home: loud, dark, shaky, and smoky.

A Prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.

Psalms 90:1
