Commander Con

I have noticed that we give more commands than we follow. Two examples are telling others to praise God and pressing people to have faith in God.

Praise Con

How do we command more than we comply when it comes to praise? Saying the word hallelujah as if it was a thing we say to God. It ain’t and some demon has infected us with “hallelujah is the highest praise”. If we knew what hallelujah means we would not harbor the thought that we can say it to God.

Faith Con

“Have faith in God” seems to shake a tree with no fruit. Remember when our Lord said that the faith of a woman was rare in all of Israel? Luke 7:9

When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, said, I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.

The con in our DNA

That was an early signal that faith is neither a Jewish (Judaic) nor a Messianic exclusive. So why is so much time devoted to getting people who are BELIEVERS to believe that God is just waiting to see their faith and give them a miracle?

In for a con or conning for an in?

Are we more in love with what God can do than with what he does?

Money panacea

Solomon tell us “money answers to everything” and we follow him at great peril.

Attachment to mammon ends in sorrow

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:10

Godly riches are internal

But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. 1 Timothy 6:11

Enjoyment of life hardly needs mammon’s sorrows

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 1 Timothy 6:17

If we have few rich and highminded friends duty calls, and it is not to emulate them

If nothing was said about our cross-bearing we might justifiably excuse ourselves from being followers of the Lamb. We are on a battlefield that threatens our temporal life. Our trust for security and success are in-Christ graces. The conflict rages in the inner person as it gets less attention than the things that appeal to our appetites our our esthetic sensibilities.

Every desire is a potential assault

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.

Genesis 3:6

There are desires of the mind that we need to curb along with all the others of the “old man”.

Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.

I will set my face against you, and you shall be struck down before your enemies. Those who hate you shall rule over you, and you shall flee when none pursues you.

American Nightmare at Peak

During Black History Month all kinds of venues have been prepared so that Black people can have their spot in the reflected light, but America has had 200 years to execute justice in the land. Defining that justice is becoming more and more improbable.  It is incredibly damning that politicians are incapable of deciding what truth is or is not.  It is a horrific traffic jam when the religious leaders have essentially hypnotized themselves to see nothing but rich, duplicitous, armed to the teeth, and murderous as the destiny of patriotic individuals, and they did it by publicly venting malice againts the first and highly esteemed Black president, and they spent eight years doing practicing their craft.

A new day of honesty not likely to happen

There is a song we sing that reminds us that Christ is convincing and final.  It goes “I need no other evidence, I need no other plea”.  Black people do not need more evidence that a shameful play is being kept alive and religious and political powers, all across the globe.  We need no other plea than “Take your hands off our necks”.

An open agreement between power and the powerless

If there is to be a day when the confession and the eager pursuit of all the instruments of government, the good graces of religious groups, the accountability of our community associations agree that justice is not being served, why not today?  None of these entities have demonstrated effective control of the direction society takes.

Let’s face it, the vast majority of us are using antiquated sources for our wisdom quest, and for guidance on how we conduct our lives, and we are pretending we do not know that not every ancient practice or convention is sustainable.  The nightmare is not going to end

  • when all the instruments of the state maintain the smokescreen of legality (secular or sacred)
  • when lipservice to morality is a mere attempt to be obedient to founding principles
  • when no western government dares to confess the same thing that any religious group confesses and pursues
  • when they have installed an avowed bigot as chief exec
  • when theft and sexual assault defines the character of the nation
  • when the external enemies of the state (according to official American intelligence sources) are the architects

Black History comes to light when all attempts to keep us chained to the very system that raped our mother, and with near impunity abuse, assault and murder us.  Discrimination is a crime, no matter who or what.  Slavery continues with absence of freedom from fear of religious and xenophobic leaders.  We still believe that some people are chosen and we are not.  What dementia could have dreamed up that idea?

Do we believe that the interests of Islam, Judaism or Hinduism are incapable of inspiring  a new generation of honest freedom fighters?  Or are Christian lawyer disrupters like Jay Sekulo, half-baked rabblerousers like Giuliani, and vacuous experts like Ben Carson the best thing since the murder of the Nazarene?

No-one else gets 490 years to get it right.  America and Canada have seen what happens when racial insensitivity is not checked.  Their mother England (or is it really Allemand?) is a mere shadow of the Britannia that ruled the waves.  The British people can hardly have a reasonable debate at home much less negotiate with the EU over the end of a relationship which the British people gave minimal effort.  Remember how they kept their currency instead of committing to the alliance’s financing conventions?  The current distress and catastrophe in America and the UK is deserved.

Do not bother to wake up

They should get twice as much  – mercy is not for corporate and state entities – of the misery as they dished out to Indians in Asia, Aboriginals in the Americas and Australia.

Do we not hear Marcus Garvey’s message in the voice from heaven?  Do we not detect that the justice that applies to the proud nations is not atoning justice like the justice of the cross?

“Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues; Rev 18:4  for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Rev 18:5

Pay her back as she herself has paid back others, and repay her double for her deeds; mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed. Rev 18:6

Both shores of the Atlantic pond are facing the music for racism, but America is proud of its great record of wealth and idleness, oppression of the poor and needy, and the Judeo-Christian Frankenstein they created.

Black History Month

The achievements of Black people are many and encouraging. God created Malcolm and Martin and Marcus and weve turned our backs to them. These men are the cream of Blackness. Each addressed the issues that most affect our people: education, justice, and home.

After we have gotten together and felt alright we are left with perspiring preachers with nothing inspiring to say. After the murder of our prophetic messengers we are left with a state apparatus that targets our people for imprisonment and death. After the celebration of the many stellar inventions by people of African descent and after lauding the achievements of our ancestors, will the attraction of lighter skin and straighter hair become history?

Canada and the US want us to forget that the building of these two nations proceeded without regard for human life. They fully expect us to salute and be patriotic to a system that does not understand humility, justice and mercy.

These – humility, justice and mercy – are not the demands of any religious group. They are the bare minimum for human accountability and sustainability.

There was a price for dreadlocks that was not monetary and I can say with certainty that dreadlock that simply look nice are not dreadlocks.

Black History Month

Here we find two words that stir up the thunder diluted with month. Since my descent from African stock in the diaspora dawned on me I have never lost sight of the difference between the African genius and the world into which her children were thrust.

Discrimination based on skin colour has been driving policy on the planet for a long time, longer than most know. The sister and brother of Moses had a problem with Moses’ Ethiopian wife. That may be the first on public record.

Annual Reveille

The problems with BHM include the facts of (1) people of African descent playing games with colour and (2) far too many of us reluctant to embrace Africa as mother. That is pathetic because the “mothers” of the dominant nations of our times have all been imperialist, serial rapists.

  1. They all are imitations of the papacy. They all want to have authority over life (what people think and do)
  2. At some point they have demanded worship
  3. They love to be called amazing.

It was 1970 when I began to discover who my people in the Island nation of Antigua and Barbuda were. My conviction then was “I am an African and proud of it”. It remains.

Global Struggle

If there are no African leaders raising the banner of the cause of Africans everywhere are we not to conclude that the vision of our common struggle is either dead or irrelevant? But who dares utter that evaluation about having coming a long way and having a long way to go? Not I. The struggle is not an infinite or unending journey. If we are not taking a firm stand everywhere – in church, school, mosque, synagogue, workplace, sport, and government – we might want to consider leaving the issue alone. Black History is either exercises in justice or fine sayings to educate people and warm their hearts.

Our struggle must be in our image

Finding the Fight Fit is Easy

Revisiting the idea that the word of truth needs to be measured and fit together is neither tiring nor monotonous. Popular as rightly dividing among people who have neither interest nor ability to work with the Biblical text, the actual work is missing in action.

There are thousands of poorly translated Bible expressions which lead to disastrous interpretations. There are scores of popular sayings that pollute the word-working environment which we have thought were Christ-centered.

Investigating those expressions closely from the source and with Christ as the axis is still our best shield against silly slogans and shallow beliefs.

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

Peter got it right when he said to Yeshua “Where can we go? You have the words of life“. He would be a mega hypocrite if he was thinking that some other person also had the words of life. What would it make us if we say what Peter said and keep a convenient back up or alternate source handy?

And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

Matthew 7:26

To propose that our Lord had a scroll in his hand when he uttered these words is evidence that the influence of demonic hypnosis is more important than biblical fact. Who else would turn you down a useless sideroad?

The Failure of Wall Law

The walls of historic significance are all in ruins, and their intended purposes remain unachievable. People need people. People need to move and no priority move on God’s part have progressed without migration. Wall theology reaches into the darkness of racial and gender discrimination. If Christian attitudes keep skidding off the gospel track to embrace wall – legal or literal – we can expect a catastrophic outcome because peace and safety are grounded in attitudes, not law.

The partition of humans into camps other than lost or saved is a perversion of the enlightened mind.

Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. 1 Corinthians 10:12
