Figleaf Prayerfulness

Hallelujah, Thank you Jesus, I love you Lord, Have mercy Lord are phrases worn by people who wish to appear to be prayerful.   When the call to be in prayer all the time is properly understood no one needs to put on expressions like this to appear to comply with “pray without ceasing”.  There is no real multitasking beyond repetitious tasks such as riding  a bicycle and eating a peanut at the same time.  Joining the Holy Spirit in his activity, calls for discrimination and sensitivity and praying all the time a consuming activity for which opportunities are to be sought.  No one prays all the time (or everywhere) and believers do no need a figleaf to cover the gaps in our prayer life.

Pray with unceasing prayer and entreaty on every fitting occasion in the Spirit, and be always on the alert to seize opportunities for doing so, with unwearied persistence and entreaty on behalf of all God’s people,

Ephesians 6:18

The location from which one watches for (unto) prayer is not prayer.

Watching for the Lord more than for the morning.
