The most serious interventions in most churches are no intervention at all. We have heard the mighty rants against sin in the church and sin in the world. Have we heard so much as a peep about sin carried through the heavens into the highest and holiest? Or course not. The priority, when the believer’s purity is the issue, is not God’s great gift of his Son but some gimmick for ensnaring an unsuspecting believer into the latest scam or paying homage to human ingenuity. It is a case for weeping, because healed people cling to their fatal diagnosis and saved people cannot seem to get past their condemnation. Jeremiah would weep and pray for his reservoirs of his tears to pour if he heard you saying the saved are not saved.
Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for you are my praise.
Jeremiah 17:14
The healed are healed and the saved are saved
We do not have to go too far into anyone’s basement to discover that what they say about the great salvation is not what they believe. We find people creating jobs for Yeshua which he resolutely denounces. We find people turning the liberator into a prison warden. Jeremiah would weep a lot.
God’s people should be what God has made them. Shouldn’t the recipients of grace have God’s gift without the neighbours chiming to devalue them and make God look bad?
Here is how the subtle outrages typically begin.
- The saved are not saved until they…
- The healed are not healthy unless they…
- The child of God has eternal life but only if…
It really must be troubling to the Saviour to see how his work is hijacked by people who have courage only to drown themselves in their freedom-killing cover stories, their hypocritical lies, and demonic-sourced doctrines.
1) Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people! 2) Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they be all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men. 3) And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth on the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, said the LORD.
Jeremiah 9:1-3
