Vigilantism nicely dressed

A book I read recently hoping to find a glimmer of the gospel turned out to be another compilation bemoaning America’s moral decline.  The writer’s impression that a nation can absorb the Bible as its guide was not as surprising as his conclusion that it is easier to be “saved” than “lost” (his quotes).

Follow the trail, and do not nod off

Who:

  1. Says “You are the God who brought me out of bondage”?
  2. Rejects God’s voice and dies on the journey without receiving what was promises?
  3. Denies that it is God’s faithfulness that endures and assures success?

The answers

  1. A rescued people,  whose trail ends hundreds of years before God’s word comes to pass regarding the possession of Canaan
  2. A stiff-necked and Holy Spirit resistant people
  3. A person who believes he saves and keeps himself

Fingers in the wrong pie

You have heard them: trashing Jesus so that they can look legit disciples of Moses and whoever else claims to have the Bread of life. Thank God, I say, that Moses preached Christ without understanding the profound impact of the Messianic mission. Christ’s decease needed to be explained to Moses and Elijah. The Incarnate Word alone is foundation of the church.

The God who needs no evidence

Trials and temptations (testing) are common passages of life. God tested Abraham (Gn. 22:1), the Hebrew people as they journeyed towards Canaan (Exo. 15:25, 16:4, 20:20, Deut. 8:2, 16, 9:22). The propets and the dreamer of dreams is a means of testing the people (Deut. 13:3). The Canaanites left in the land after Israel’s entry was a means of gtesting the people (Judges 2:22, 3:1-4). The people tested God in a manifest departure from His will as recorded in Deuteronomy 6:16 over and over (Exo. 17:2, ). Numbers 14:22 reports that there were ten occasions of the descendants of Jacob putting God to the test. It seems a bit Satanic to request a miracle to prove that anything (see the testing of Jesus in Matthew 4). The cross, all by itself, is the evidence of God’s plan and ongoing and complete care for humanity, affirming that God, having done that amazing thing for us, assures us of all his other gracious provisions, and therefore neither He nor we needs any evidence.

God, who knows the hearts of all men, gives the Holy Spirit to those who trust their eternal destiny and the removal of their debts to God’s Son. We have no right and no ability to investigate the progress of a person’s development as child of God. We owe others nothing but to love – care for – them. The giving of the Holy Spirit is final. It is a down-payment for what is to come, namely our glorification. God commits himself to finish what he started. We believers are not exposed to what men have to say about us when we step away from the crowd to believe what God has done. God speaks with authority: that person is Mine. All the king’s horses and men cannot undo that eternal choice. God needs no evidence and does not ask us to go around asking people to show them our faith.

Consider that God is able to keep the thing we have – at His instigation (Philippians 4:13) entrusted to him, from now until the day of Christ’s appearing. You may have a terrorist for pastor/bishop, someone who stirs up a poison pot of fear that the saved are switchcing back and forth from the kingdom of darkness to the the kingdom of light. This pastoral or laity attitude comes from sin-tracking ministry, often not their own, evidently based on the levitical system, not the cross.

We have no reason, in the light of the Holy Spirit’s presence and mission, to pray like David. God knows us and we know him. We do not need anyone urging us “Get to know the Lord”.

Prove me, O LORD, and try me; test my heart and my mind.

Ps. 26:2 (ESV2011)

Go home and stay out

One more politician, one more pundit, one more three-year commentator telling us that the majority of cops are good guys comes with the smells of an outdoor latrine. We should not say it. That is not the problem. The vast majority of Americans and Canadians need to believe that all men were created equal. That vast majority now need to show it in their churches, businesses, and home-school. Ignorance, treachery, and villainy must end.

A mouthful of feet

There is a foot in the mouth when the subject is justice for Africans

For many people in Christian leadership there is just no sense of justice beyond that of the state’s. The pot pourri of Christ’s teaching and Mosaic legacy cannot address the plight of Africans. We are infected with a virulent version of the fatal disease that we recognize as Gentile harassment and ignorance of the truth. In plain sight James tried to circumcise the church and failed, yet most churches have a similar hypocritical barrier policy.

Apologetic junk posing as the gospel

No one can claim that the truth comes out of them or through them “more than” anyone else. A popular figure has named his ministry “Leading the way” and it is obvious that apologetics never really saved anyone from unbelief and death, neither is “leading” to be taken as anything but an empty boast, a rebellious dare, or an incredibly thoughtless promo.

5) Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil. 6) But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

Matthew 13:5-6

No preachers are appointed as mediators or judges ⚖

We do not kill people nor heal them of their sinful ways.  We guard the flock without being prophet, accuser and judge.

Telling people about their sin is not gospel work.   We know that there are no sinless preachers anywhere.  They should all quit if they have any sense at all. Can it be that having no root in themselves they think the best thing they can did is to carry on a show that they have a sinless life. Anyone broadcasting that is far from knowing what it means to get in line behind Christ.

Just pushing “accept Jesus as Lord” is not preaching the gospel

  • CHRISTIAN perfection is not in our flawless sayings
  • CHRISTIAN perfection is not in the good deeds we rack up
  • CHRISTIAN perfection is the merciful and generosity of the HEAVENLY FATHER expressed through us

Jesus will never give success to any movement to make him the pattern for any earthly government.  This, we cannot deny, has been the aim of American christianity.  The so-called worldviews held by many believers are more “worldly” than we could have guessed.  Many apologists realize that by trotting out concerns about morality, cute logical constructs, and beating people with the “whole Bible” they can score points with a given audience.

Rush to teach!⚠️

1. Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment. 2. For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.

James 3:1-2

Did Jesus really mean we should pray for forgiveness and be ready to offer it every day?

“Loving the sinner” is a convenient cover story for hypocrites, who we know love money more than believing what God’s Son said and did. None of us have any familiarity with what loving all sinners really means for our Boss, and that mystery of godliness should guide us to the proper treatment of offenders. We cannot claim to be asking God to make today the day for anyone. He decides. Our job is to tell people the prison doors are open and let the Holy Spirit do his work. More grace to you if you have a miraculous gift too.

The greatest sound that follows gospel preaching are the words “What must I do to be saved?” Muddy waters do not bring people to this question.

One Bad Apple! Approved!

The bunch has more than one dozen rotten apples, so please let us find a reliable way to talk about bigotry, racism, police brutality and a hypocritical department of justice.

  • One sin sank Adam’s boat
  • Zero tolerance to us-them ideologies is hard to find
  • We have been christening the nazi and fascist playbook
