Be very sure my friends

Relations with the Risen Christ is not defined by prophetic, wonder-working, or exorcist ministries.  Ask Yeshua.

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out devils? and in your name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, all of you that work iniquity. Therefore whosoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that hears these sayings of mine, and does them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Matthew 7:22-27

When happiness touches down

Since happiness is in the context of being persecuted for the sake of righteousness shouldn’t a society that is based on moral attitudes and social norms of decency outlaw persecution for doing the right things?

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Matthew 5:12

“Updated” KJV Sinks Low

Translations are often disappointing and when they shift the context into the core it is just plain unhealthy. Matthew 26:27 is one less serious of hundreds of sentences that even modern translations tend to turn to mush. Really!

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink all of you all of it;

Matthew 26:27

Verb treatment should have high definition, not simply storytelling. This is some lazy translation! 😌 Every action comes out as mere storytelling; he took, he thanked, he gave. Why did they not keep that “simple” approach with “he said”? I will show you. The so-called literal translation points the way.

These panels below show the KJV, Young’s Literal Translation, a Greek Manuscript, and Weymouth’s.

Λαβων and ευχαρίστας are not merely “he took” and “he thanked”. They’re in the same form (words are inflected to convey meaning as in English hear > hears >heard > hearing) as requires a contextual interpretation; “when he had…” or “as he was…” or “as they were…” (example in verse 26 below)

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

Matthew 26:26

The reason they did they not keep that “simple” approach with “he said” for saying is that saying is also inflected for a contextual treatment. It goes to show that rightly dividing does not happen automatically in the many translations.

Mo’trashing Brat

I want to draw attention to – observe carefully – an entity that trashes its mother. Not only is the concept abominable in human relationships it is damnable in our collective love for our source and nourished.

[ ] Insects are disappearing because of us
[ ] Plants are disappearing because of us
[ ] Land mass is shrinking because of us

What did we think “work the earth” mean if not service? The earth is not a thinking entity yet is our mother, our source and destination.

The shame attached to disrespecting one’s parents was illustrated by the capital punishment sentence.

Dissing parents is a capital offence

Mother-trashing brats beware!
People who trash anyone’s mother can be expected to pay. None of those children (adults included) who speak bad things about their parents will go free.

And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Rev 11:18

Should the USA trash-talk the UK?
Should the dispersed of Africa, China or Israel feel free to trash-talk their motherland?

Speak the truth but trash no-one.

Be True

Be true; never mind the crowd.

The only people mad at you for speaking the truth are those living a lie.

Wait ’til they see that the truth you speak is the flavour of your people interactions!

Mumbo jumbo love

We have seen the games religious people play with talking love and public policy people with trying to legislate respect and good interpersonal attitudes. The entire experience has been a ready source for some of the silliest explanations of the glue of the human family.

In a still unfinished work I will share a better way to increase the quality of the human love experience. In it jumbo is nor the twin confusing companion of mumbo. Jumbo will discuss the size of the love we need if we plan to thrive.

Please watch eejoseph.com for Mumbo Jumbo Love.

On law and order

When US Attorney-general Barr threw out Special Counsel Mueller’s summary and gave the American people his own chlorinated version of the Mueller Report he showed himself an Eli.

Don’t know Eli? Meet him here in this interaction with Samuel, his youthful successor as judge and priest. If you utter an OMG you are in good shape.

And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle. In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end. For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not. And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

1 Samuel 3:11-14

What General Barr needs to do – restore the bar

He needs to deliver a stern rebuke to the GOP and Tea Party clans that makes it clear that (a) facts alone make America safe and (b) lies are abominable in every circumstance, not just in FBI interactions.

Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the Lord’s people to transgress.

1 Samuel 2:24

Need more graphics? Here’s a blind and aged man in 1 Samuel 4:15.
Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were dim, that he could not see.

Here’s the overweight Eli in I 1 Samuel 4:18
And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

Need more graphics? Here are two snapshots to remember: the capture of the ark by the Philistines and family reaction.

1 Samuel 4:19
And his daughter in law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her.

The outcome of Eli’s slipping – the glory question

1 Samuel 4:21
And she named the child I–chabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband. ee kabôd means where is the glory?

Perhaps this woman felt that she had been robbed by the nepotism of the Eli family just as an entire nation feels robbed of its vital participation in the nation’s choice making without interference. There is so much crime following the crime busters that we have to conclude that the greatness has departed. If greatness has anything to do with officers and administrators of justice it had better not bar the people from the unvarnished – redacted is fine – truth.
