The book of ths dead, Numbers, has one occurrence of the word adôn אדון, lord. It comes after the people plot to return to Egypt, and after Joshua and Caleb plead with the Israelites to quit their fear and unbelief. It comes after Moses’ pitch, ” Won’t the neighbors say you, Yahweh, have failed? This is the same intercession that Moses played after the golden calf episode.

It is in this timeframe that Yahweh declared the forty years of wandering and the death of all except Caleb and Joshua.

And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, 14:17

Except for the crises in this period I do not know why here is the only place where adonai turns up and does so in a diplomatic phrase: “let my lord’s power be great as you said”.

Promises Forgotten Forgiven

An exciting and destructive practice adorns Christian practice when it comes to promises and their fulfillment. One has to admit that human promises depend on God’s say-so, no matter how intense our proclamation may be, or how many evidences we put out in defence of our

Psalm 146 is a prominent hallel; it begins and ends with halal (the verb to praise, to speak with a twinkle in one’s eye), and it demonstrates the praise given in graphic ways. It first warns us off from directing our hallels towards humans (vss 3 and 4)

I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.

I will praise AND I will sing look like promises but are cohortatives. The speaker humbly and earnestly seeks opportunity and permission.

“As long as I live” AND “while I have my being” look like oaths

  • Ehallah let me praise YHWH
  • B’chai, in my life
  • Zimrah let me serenade my Elohim
  • B’`ôdî, in my continued existence

Our promises

Did we ever pause, or got overwhelmed by tasks? Does praise and singing ever have to compete in our multitasking environments?

Do we really mean “God willing” or “Hope my will does not fail”? When praise rises we are most fortunate to have been allowed to mind divine majesty.
Please let us not waste such a gift with idle or selfish words in assembly: words we are not familiar with and words that are self-edifying.

Lift up Christ or Shush

This is not saying “hallelujah ” but mouthing what is great about Yah. This hallel says things (vss 5-10) ABOUT GOD and man

  • Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever;
  • who executes justice for the oppressed,
  • who gives food to the hungry.
  • The Lord sets the prisoners free;
  • the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
  • The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
  • the Lord loves the righteous.
  • The Lord watches over the sojourners;
  • he upholds the widow and the fatherless,
  • but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
  • The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations.

Next time you are tempted to promise to praise God without ceasing or in a perfect way, do your best to respect the God who gives you the presence of mind to reflect on his majesty.

No Repentance! Game over!

There is no repentance in the approach that says God changes nothing. If God does not change his instructions or introduce a new arrangement then we all should be stoning people for expressing their opinion, destroying our neighbours’ property, putting them to the sword, and taking their land and women.

There was nothing new or extraordinary about the call to repent by John and Yeshua if it was a call to turn from sin. The main thrust of the prophetic ministry had always been to insist that Israel turn (return shub שוב) to Yahweh. The kingdom in ancient history had degraded into naked spiritual adultery.

Impenitence is rampant today. It opposes the gospel and loves the law. It reveres prophets and miracle workers and rejects the cornerstone. Lipservice to Yahweh has been at the centre of Israelite life for most of Israelite history and dominated in New Testament times.

If Yeshua had not said it we would not have realized that little had changed from the days when Isaiah addressed the issue. Observation of the 21st century church shows that lipservice

It is a fallacy to talk about repentance that brings salvation as returning to God. Humans were never in God’s family.

The Jews had tremendous struggles changing their perspective from Moses to God’s Son. How we measure up in our times is to be measured by our eyes for Christ and our eyes for humanity of any standing or rank.

Life and Mindfulness

SEVERAL LAYERS OF UNDERSTANDING

1 John 5:20 pins the reader, a believer, to mental and spiritual accuracy with (1) the idea of the Christ Event – “has come” (2) with a gift of thorough thinking and (3) intimacy with Christ.

  1. And we know that the Son of God has come. OIDAMEN, we know
  2. and has given us understanding, DIANOIA
  3. so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. GINOSKOMEN

Something to hope for

Now in this hope we were saved, but hope that is seen is not hope, because who hopes for what he sees?

The list of virtues (power and qualities) with which the believer has intimate connections is long indeed. The facets of Spirit-fruit are 8. The growth in grace brings us face to face with another 5 as we discover in 2 Peter 1:5-7

  • knowledge
  • steadfastness
  • godliness
  • brotherly affection
  • love

From Paul in Colossians 3:12-13 we are given more coordinates for virtues

  1. compassionate hearts
  2. kindness,
  3. humility,
  4. meekness
  5. patience,
  6. Tolerance (bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another)
  7. forgiviness (forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive)

Obedience is not on any of these lists of nobility because it lends itself to the most famous fables or fibs. God knows what credit does to humans and that is why we (who know the Lord) are better off giving the Heavenly Father all the glory and dominion. Read Genesis 3, Exodus 20, and Deuteronomy 31:19 to, 29 and see why.

“Teach them to observe” is neither salvation nor holiness. It is the mandate relative to contention and security. The sayings of Yeshua are held only by believers, by the elect. So we can drop the Pharisee routine about converting an unbeliever or as in many cases a Christian.

People need something to hope for. People need room to grow. The idea that one can fill up a seeker with all the truth before and thereby make them believers or saints is false and malicious. The church has been there!

Father Speech You Want to Know

Father Speech We Should Know

It is a privilege that we can pick out the distinct voice of the Father in Scripture. Of course there is the notable utterance like the baptism saying “This is my Son, pay attention to him”, and then there are the dozens of words spoken by the Saviour, which we know are words he heard from the Father (John 8:28,12:49). Father speech is rare indeed outside of the narratives. It is a bit of a supernova when Yeshua cites a portion of Scripture where the Father speaks to the Son about John the Baprist.

This is he of whom it is written, “‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’

Luke 7:27

John is the one about whom the Father, in speaking to the Son, says

“I am sending a messenger ahead of you…”

Like What You Say?

We are trying to discover what the precise corollary to the essential Spirit help in prayer is. Likewise tips us in that direction.as we read Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

To understand the issue we look for
1. Divine help
2. Necessary intervention
3. Human poverty
4. The divine assistance defined

PRAYER

  • Spirit helps our weakness
  • Is necessary
  • Because we are ignorant of what to say

The previously mentioned patterns include:

  1. WHO WE ARE. Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
  2. COMMON INCOMPARABLE EXPERIENCES. Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in
  3. THE FUTILITY AND HOPE TWINS. Romans 8:20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope
  4. GROANING SONSHIP. Romans 8:23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
  5. THE NECESSITY OF HAVING SOMETHING TO HOPE FOR. Romans 8:24-25 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Just as these opposite conditions are authentic in both their present and future screening, and not directed by the believer, so is the prayer life.

Walk in the Spirit: no condemnation is possible. We know that without a doubt people who walk in the Spirit will be the last to throw a book at you.

Dead body and righteous life

We must not assail the faith of our brothers. we ought to as did Paul, affirm, not question, the condition of the faithful: that Christ is in them and that they are righteous.

But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. Romans 8:10

Contrary to the hoopla, fable smuggling and terrorism of the former regime the resident Christ means dead body and righteous living. Faith is that decisive.
